Text | Hello WillowKitty, I'll make this very brief because it's after midnight now. I just stumbled across some info you had posted on "rootsweb" and was excited to see a connection I had never been able to make before. I was searching on the name of my Gr.Gr.Grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Young and found your post with the Bishop family connection. I really haven't done much genealogy in about ten years so the details aren't fresh on my mind right now, but here are a few things, in no particular order: Several years ago I mailed queries to the public libraries around Erath County asking for anyone with a Bishop family connection to write me back. I never got any response, so I'm happy to find you. I discovered the Erath Co. location from a settlement of Thom.J.Young's estate which had been signed by Elmira Young Bishop and verified by the sheriff of Erath Co.. I still have this original document with the signatures of all TJY's children. My Gr.Grandfather, Thomas Wilson Young, bought the shares of his siblings. (I don't think there was anything involved but TJY's home. My GGrFthr was the only male descendant of TJY and was the one who was taking care of him. All of his sisters had gone to other locales.) I also have a postcard from Neppie B. written to her Uncle Tom. I believe it has a picture of the courthouse in Erath Co. on it. I don't recall when it was written but it was while Elmira was still living, because Neppie included a phrase like, "Mom sends her love..." I'm not sure, but I believe my GGrFthr spelled his sister's name, Elmira. I have a photocopy of his family bible with family names but I haven't looked at it in years. TJYoung's wife was named Permelia Winn (they called her "Millie"). They were married in Huntsville, AL. I don't recall the date, but there is quite a bit of information on the Winn family during this period. TJY was born in 1810 and my GGrFthr was born in 1838 in Alabama before they moved to Mississippi. I hope this information will be of interest to you. I'm glad, after all these years, to finally find someone related to the Bishop/Young family that went to Texas. I really couldn't figure out exactly who you are or what your family connection is from the "rootsweb" file. I guess I don't understand this site enough to navigate it.
