1. | BISHOP, William L. was born on 26 Jan 1781 in Spartanburg Co., South Carolina (son of BISHOP, William Glover and BALLENGER, Sarah); died on 28 Apr 1856 in Spartanburg Co., South Carolina. Notes: W. L. Bishop's wife Mary (Polly) is listed Spartanburg Probate Record # 1944, as living in 1811, date of her father's will, the daughter of Reuben Seay, and married to a Bishop. Also, File # 2427 gives names, marriage date, dates of birth for William and Mary and date of death of Reuben. William married Seay, Mary "Polly" on 15 Mar 1804 in Spartanburg, SC. Mary was born on 15 Nov 1785; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
2. | BISHOP, William Glover was born about 1738 in Granville Co., North Carolina (son of BISHOP, Henry and Mary); died on 10 Aug 1823 in Spartanburg, SC. Notes: Demastus (demastus@aol.com): Shows the full name to be William Glover Bishop; much of the info on descendants of Matthew Bishop from him. He got middle name from someone else and I am trying to check it out, but no response yet. Later, Michael Bishop confirmed middle name thru land sale records. William married BALLENGER, Sarah. Sarah was born between 1742 and 1752; died on 21 Sep 1826 in Spartanburg Co., South Carolina. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
3. | BALLENGER, Sarah was born between 1742 and 1752; died on 21 Sep 1826 in Spartanburg Co., South Carolina. Notes: Original thoughts: Sarah would be a good match to be the daughter of Francis Bellanger and Sarah Conner. Francis was born about 1725 in VA and died ? in Spartanburg. Sarah was born about 1727, and I know nothing else about her. They had 2 known children: Frances b. abt 1750 and Edward b. about 1752. Francis was the son of Edward Ballenger, Sr. who came to VA from England and Mary Unknown. They would be the right age to be the parents of Sarah, and with the wife named Sarah, it is likely that they would have named a daughter Sarah.

4. | BISHOP, Henry was born between 1700 and 1705 in Prince George Co., Virginia (son of BISHOP, John and Sarah); died in 1782. Notes: The children of Henry Bishop were "straightened out" by Michael Bishop of Arlington, TX, with assistance from Mailande Schrum. This confirms, without solid proof, that the Spartanburg Bishops descend from Capt. John Bishop. Henry married Mary. Mary and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
