  Text	Grace Helen Mitchell, daughter of Benjamin T. and Electa Mitchell, was born near Clinton, Illinois, June 18, 1851 and passed away April 18, 1939 at the home of daughter, Mrs. J. N. Duvall of Des Moin es, at the age of 87 years, ten months. On January 1, 1869, she was married to J. H. Merrill in Clinton, Illinois. To this union was born nine children. All but one, who died in infancy, are still living. They are, Mrs. Cora Duvall, Mrs. Lena Cowles and Mrs. Nellie Cofield of Des Moines: L. D. Merrill of Leon : C. H. Merrill of Stockton, California: Mrs. Gertrude Mintle of Glenwood, Iowa. Mrs. Grace Garber of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and E. E. Merrill of Pine Bluff, Wyoming. She and her husband came to Iowa in 1896, and located on a farm near here. Later they moved into Leon, where in 1926 her husband proceeded her in death. After a few years she disposed of her propert y here and thereafter made her home with her children. Early in life, she became a Christian, uniting with the Methodist church, to which she remained faithful until her death. Of her, could be truthfully said, "She was a good woman." Besides her children and a host of friends, she leaves to mourn her loss, thirty four grandchildren and forty great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Stewart Funeral Home, Friday, April 21, conducted by Rev. C. B. Rayhill. Interment at the Leon Cemetery.
