Text | JAMES KENNETH CHAPMAN MORRILL--James Kenneth Chapman, 73, of Morrill, died Thursday, June 15, 2000 at his home. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2000 at the Berean Church with Pastor Mark Baker officiating. Inurnment will be in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Morrill with military honors provided by Admiral Dewey Post #1681 VFW. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory. Friends may sign the register book today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Morrill. A memorial has been established to the family. He was born July 28, 1926 in Ft. Collins, Colo, to Edward M. and Eva L. (Widdows)Chapman. He received his education in the Ft. Collins school systems and graduated from Ft. Collins High School in 1944. In October of that year, he enlisted in the United Stated Army in Ft. Collins and became a decorated war veteran. May 23, 1946, he was awarded the Purple Heart while with the 158th Regimental Combat Team known as the "Bushmasters". His other decorations included the Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, Campaign Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, with one Bronze Star. He owned and operated the J & F Tavern for 40 years and also worked at the Gate Tavern in Mitchell for six years, and he built and remodeled homes throughout the years. He most recently was an American Courier Driver. He married Carrie L. Chapman in Cheyenne, Wyo., and had been married for over 20 years. He was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department from 1969 to 1971, and was an avid fly-fisherman. He loved the mountains, fly-fishing, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Carrie; sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Annette Chapman of Clermont, Fla., Mark and Mindy Chapman of Foxfield, Colo., Eric and Mary Chapman of Denver, Colo.; daughter and son-in-law, Jeanie and Frank Young of Morrill; daughters, Jamie Johnson of Silverdale, Wash., and Tonya Rask of Morrill; sons, Randy Eiland of Wash., Floyd Smith of Morrill, Richard Smith of Lincoln; and 15 grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his first wife, Barbara. | |
