Text | Ruth Maxine Smith Areford, 70, of Carmichaels, died Monday, December 1, 2003, in UPMC-Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born November 15, 1933, in Waynesburg, a daughter of James A. and Ruth Rush Smith. Mrs. Areford was a member of Rolling Meadows Church of God. She was employed as a sewer and garment cutter at Greenway Manufacturing Co. and was a member of Amalgamated Garment Workers Union. On August 2, 1952, she married Ewing Areford Jr., who died in 1998. Surviving are two sons, Charles Leon Areford of Carmichaels and Ronald L. Areford of Harrisburg; two daughters, Christine S. Smith of Carmichaels and Karen L. Barron of Pittsburgh; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five brothers, James A. Jr. Smith of Caspar, Wyo., Walter Smith of Greensboro and Earl B., Melvin L. and Robert L. Smith, all of Waynesburg; three sisters, Violet English and Loretta Louise Patterson, both of Waynesburg, and Betty Knoll of Lordstown, Ohio. Deceased are a grandson, Ewing R. Areford; two brothers, Glenn and John Smith; and a sister, Kay Patterson. More: Friends of Ruth Maxine Areford of Carmichaels, who died Monday, December 1, 2003, will be received from 7 to 9 PM Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM Wednesday and 10 until 11 AM, the hour of services, Thursday, December 4, in Paul M. Lesako Funeral Home Inc., Carmichaels, with the Rev. Tim Tanner officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park Mausoleum, Waynesburg. | |
