Text | William Priest William Priest was born in Wellsburg, West Virginia, August 5th, 1818, and died at his home in Leon, April 10, 1896, aged 77 years, 8 months and 5 days. He was united in marriage with Miss Isabel Newland July 14, 1844, at Parkersburg, Virginia. To this union were born eleven children, six boys and five girls. One son and a daughter preceded him to the spirit land. He lived to see ten children married and at his death was the grand father of fifty-six grand children and eight great grand children. His aged companion and all of his children were permitted to be with him in his last moments except Mrs. McKinley of Colorado and Stephen Priest of Atlantic, Iowa. Deceased united with the Christian church at 14 years of age and has ever remained a faithful and devoted follower of the Master. He was a man of integrity and enjoyed the respect and esteem of all who knew him. He located in Decatur county in 1855 and his death again reminds us that our pioneer settlers are rapidly passing away. The funeral services were conducted at the house by Elder C. F. Stevens after which the remains were followed to their last resting place by the relatives and a large circle of sympathizing friends. | |
