by Eunice McCuen
Ollie S. Potter, son of Adelbert and Addie Jarvis Potter, was born Nov. 6, 1886, at Whitewater, Wis. He later moved with his parents to a farm five and one-half miles south of White next to the Quinn farm where Dale Bowne now lives. Then he moved with the family to Argo Township, now the McKibben farm. Mattie Ada Tyler, the daughter of John and Rebecca Taylor Tyler, was born May 6, 1886, in North Dakota. When she was three months old, the family moved to a farm southeast of White, where she grew to womanhood. She attended school at Sherman District #106. Mattie and Ollie Potter were married on Sept. 5, 1910 in White.
After farming southwest of White for two years, they moved to the John Tyler farm in Sherman Township four and one-half miles southeast of White, where they lived for 28 years, making it over 50 years that Mattie resided on that farm. In 1942, they moved to a farm four miles northeast of Brookings, where they lived for 11 years. They retired from farming in 1953, and moved to Brookings. Ollie and Mattie were faithful members of the Methodist Church in White, and of the National Grange Organization. Mattie passed away at the home of her daughter Erma on March 5, 1954.
On Nov. 30, 1954, Ollie married Elva May Davis Westerlund of Madison, S.D.
