- It is not proved that the Edmund who married Anna and lived in Spartanburg, SC, is the same one later found in Lawrence Co., MS, but there is so much circumstantial evidence that I am placing him here, seeking proof. Due to the apparent difference in ages of the children, I wonder if Edmund may have remarried before the birth of the last 3 children. An Edmond Bishop married Anna Russell October 18, 1810 in Maury Co, TN; wonder if related.
The following was received 10/11/97 from Jack Coffee :
I have part of a will, found in Lawrence Co., prepared by an Edmund Bishop circa 1826. The document is very fragile and only part of it was found in the file. It reads as follows:
In the name of God Amen I Edmund Bishop of Laurence county and State of Mississippi knowing the certainty of death (torn) uncertainty of life do make this my last will and testament in the words following to wit the land and all the rest of my property to belong to my wife Anna Bishop and my three youngest children George Sarah and Benjamin Bishop only George to have the young cold [colt?] as his own right and property and to reduct the amount of the value thare of out of his part when tha [they] all come of age my wife to hold all in hur [her] hands during her... then, it ends!
Moved to Standingstone Creek, 5 mi W. of Spartanburg near New Pisgah Church, across creek. Reported to have come to Spartanburg from NC.
