- Janet Sweet: According to the Richey descendants chart from Jackie Sanders, 4303 S. Cole St., Morrison, CO 80465-1137, the Richey family seems to have moved from Pendleton Dist SC to Jefferson Co. AL by 1820, as John and Martha's 8th child Matilda Caroline and subsequent children were born in Blount Springs, Jefferson Co. AL. I am guessing that Elias Bishop and Mary Alice Cowan Richey married in Blount Springs, Jefferson Co. AL, as the Richey chart shows they married in AL. Annie and Iola Bishop believe Elias was born in SC.
Indicative of other Bishops in Jefferson Co. AL, we have a will written in anticipation of death by a John Bishop dated 17 Mar 1840 in Jefferson Co. AL mentioning children John, son I.I.S.H.P., Charlotte Turner, Andria Turner, (son-in-law John Turner), Cynthia Addis Snow, Joseph, son William's widow Elizabeth, son E. S., grandson John Perry Bishop (don't know whose child), and a Margaret Bishop Lawrence (doesn't say daughter.) Executors are William Taylor of Jefferson Co. and George W. Patrick of St. Clair Co. AL. Witnesses were Mines Yancy, William Nance, and James Taylor. We don't know how John and Elizabeth Bishop are connected to us, but surely they are; John could be an uncle of Elias.
Elias's middle initial is "S", not "B." I don't know what the S stands for, but I do know it is definitely S. It is recorded several places as B, but ... Jefferson County, AL: Page 219. Elias S. Bishop and wife Mary to Samuel Turner, 16 September 1839..............DNB
